# RDS & Aurora Restore options

There are 3 options

#### (1) Restoring RDS / Aurora backup or a snapshot creates a new database. (Lecture more in Backup part)

#### (2) Restoring MySQL RDS  database from S3 (On-premise)

* create a backup of your on-premise DB 
* store it on S3
* restore backup from the file onto a new RDS instance

#### (3) Restoring MySQL Aurora  database from S3 (On-premise)

* create a backup of your on-premise DB using Percona XtraBackup
* store it on S3
* restore backup from the file onto a new Aurora instance
